The Listening Nest is a group practice, owned and run by McKenzie M. Tavella, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Connecticut; The Listening Nest started with McKenzie, and now has grown to a staff with various specialties and backgrounds, at a warm, fun location together in downtown Fairfield.
How we can help
Together, we are able to serve and support various populations of individuals. We work closely with clients to learn about their concerns and struggles, develop an appropriate treatment plan, combining talk therapy with skill-building tools to make lasting, effective, and healthy changes.
Who we help
Our clinicians have extensive experience working with adolescents, teenagers, and young adults, with a variety of difficulties and goals. Neurodivergence, such as ADHD, OCD, and being on the autism spectrum are a few examples of some of our clinician's specialties. We also help many individuals with anxiety, depression, and the general stressors of life. This includes utilizing executive functioning skills, DBT and CBT techniques, and family systems work.

Our practice truly meets with client, as we say, "where they are at." Meaning, we are especially flexible and adaptable to what the clients needs are. Do you want to be challenged? We'll challenge you. Do you want to take it slow? We can slow it down. Do you need us to incorporate a family member or a friend? We'll make space for that. Do you prefer privacy? We'll respect that. Do you need to walk and talk? Let's walk it out. Do you want the lights off? We'll help you be comfortable. Do we need to work around a busy sports schedule? We'll find a way to make it work.
We will offer a safe, supportive environment that will listen to your wants and needs, while also striving to meet your goals in an effective way.
About McKenzie
Hi! I am McKenzie Tavella; a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut, and the founder of The Listening Nest. I previously worked at Fairfield Counseling Services and LifeBridge CT, both of which are non-profit mental health agencies in Fairfield County.
In 2020, I opened my private practice, with the goal of creating a space where I could personalize it to support more clients and provide more specialized and accessible care.
Since then, The Listening Nest has grown into a group practice; I now have the privilege of working alongside and supervising other clinicians.
I am extremely passionate about being a counselor, working especially with adolescents, teenagers, young adults, and their families. I believe that every individual brings their own strengths, challenges, experiences, and perspective into therapy. My goal is to support clients in a safe, empathetic, non-judgmental and holistic way, to make lasting, effective change.
Growth and healing are not linear; changes are inevitable. I believe with patience, self-awareness, and a teamwork approach, we can navigate life's challenges in a much more logical and helpful way.
